Getting Back on that Horse
The first one went so well, we had to immediately brewed another...three years later. Our egos may have been bruised a bit, but we were not deterred. Life just sometimes gets in the way.
Oh, and by the way, F*CK CANCER!
Real Ale Brewing Company in Blanco, Texas is a great brewery. I've never had a bad brew from there and Firemans #4 is no exception. It's perfect on a hot West Texas day. Once we found AHS had a kit, our decision was made for us!
Our strategy was simple: brew a mini mash like before so that we didn't have to use a mash tun, use a stainless steel pot and use spring water to avoid chlorine (besides, our water isn't great at all.) We broke everything out from storage and cleaned and sanitized.
Brew day went without a hitch. The hot break made a beautiful pattern that made the cooling wort look like a fire cyclone. This time, we put the boil kettle in a tub full of ice and water this time as well as the copper cooling coil.
Though thin and lacking a body, this brew was actually drinkable. It just had a "homebrew" taste to it.
